From BoardWalk-area resorts

EPCOT has two completely separate entrances — and which one you use determines which transportation to take. The main entrance (front, near Spaceship Earth) is served by buses from all resorts, the EPCOT monorail from TTC, and parking. The International Gateway entrance (back, between France and UK) is served by the Skyliner, Friendship boats, and walking paths from EPCOT-area resorts.

Your first destination inside the park should drive your entrance choice — and your transportation. This guide covers all your options and helps you choose the right one.

The Two Entrances

Understanding EPCOT's layout is essential before choosing transportation.

Main Entrance (Front)

Located at the north end of the park, in front of Spaceship Earth.

Accessible via:

  • Monorail (EPCOT line from TTC)
  • Buses (from all resorts)
  • Driving/parking

Best for:

  • Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
  • Test Track
  • Journey Into Imagination
  • Spaceship Earth
  • Starting your day at the "front" of the park

International Gateway (Back)

Located at the south end of the park, between France and the UK pavilions in World Showcase.

Accessible via:

Best for:

  • Remy's Ratatouille Adventure
  • Frozen Ever After
  • World Showcase dining reservations
  • Starting in World Showcase and working forward

Why This Matters

If you're rope-dropping Guardians of the Galaxy, arriving via Skyliner (International Gateway) puts you on the wrong side of the park — a 15+ minute walk before you even start.

If you're heading straight to Remy's Ratatouille Adventure, the main entrance bus drops you far from your destination.

Match your entrance to your first destination.

From Monorail Resorts

Resorts: Contemporary, Polynesian, Grand Floridian

EPCOT Monorail (via TTC)

Take the Resort Monorail to TTC, then transfer to the EPCOT Monorail. This drops you at the main entrance.

Typical time: 25-35 minutes (including transfer)

Direct Bus

Buses from monorail resorts go directly to EPCOT's main entrance.

Typical time: 20-30 minutes

Which to choose? The bus is usually faster because it's direct. The monorail involves a transfer. But the monorail is more scenic and can be worth it if you're not in a rush.

From Skyliner Resorts

Resorts: Pop Century, Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach, Riviera

Skyliner resorts have the best access to EPCOT — if you want International Gateway.

Skyliner (to International Gateway)

Direct to EPCOT's back entrance from Caribbean Beach and Riviera. From Pop Century and Art of Animation, you transfer at Caribbean Beach to the EPCOT line.

Typical time:

Drops you at: International Gateway (World Showcase, between France and UK)

Step-by-step: Pop Century to EPCOT or Art of Animation to EPCOT.

Bus (to Main Entrance)

Standard bus service to EPCOT's front entrance.

Typical time: 20-30 minutes

Drops you at: Main entrance (Spaceship Earth, Future World)

Which to Choose?

Your First Destination Take
Guardians of the Galaxy Bus (main entrance)
Test Track Bus (main entrance)
Spaceship Earth Bus (main entrance)
Remy's Ratatouille Adventure Skyliner (International Gateway)
Frozen Ever After Skyliner (International Gateway)
World Showcase dining Skyliner (International Gateway)

Don't default to Skyliner just because it's fun. Match your transportation to where you actually need to be.

From EPCOT-Area Resorts

Resorts: BoardWalk, Yacht Club, Beach Club, Swan, Dolphin

These resorts have the best EPCOT access of any Disney property — you can walk.

Walking (to International Gateway)

All five resorts are within walking distance of EPCOT's International Gateway.

Resort Walk Time
Beach Club 5-7 minutes
Yacht Club 7-10 minutes
BoardWalk 8-12 minutes
Swan 10-12 minutes
Dolphin 10-15 minutes

Step-by-step routes: Beach Club → EPCOT · BoardWalk → EPCOT

Drops you at: International Gateway (World Showcase)

This is almost always your best option for World Showcase. By the time you wait for a bus, you could already be inside the park.

Friendship Boats (to International Gateway)

Boats run from the BoardWalk area docks to International Gateway. Pleasant but often slower than walking.

Typical time: 10-15 minutes (including wait)

Best for: When you don't feel like walking or want a relaxing ride.

Bus (to Main Entrance)

Standard bus service to the front of the park.

Typical time: 15-25 minutes

Best for: When you specifically need the main entrance (Guardians, Test Track).

The Honest Calculation

For most EPCOT trips from these resorts, walk. It's faster and completely within your control. Only take the bus if you specifically need the main entrance.

See Walking vs. Bus: When Your Feet Are Faster for more.

From All Other Resorts

Resorts: All-Stars, Port Orleans, Coronado Springs, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Wilderness Lodge, Fort Wilderness, Saratoga Springs, Old Key West, etc.

Bus (Your Main Option)

Direct bus service to EPCOT's main entrance.

Typical time: 20-40 minutes depending on resort location

This is your primary option. Buses run frequently and drop you at the front of the park.

Can I Get to International Gateway Without Skyliner?

Yes, but it's complicated:

  • Bus to Hollywood Studios, then Skyliner to EPCOT
  • Bus to Disney Springs, then bus to BoardWalk/Yacht Club area, then walk

Neither of these makes sense for most guests. If you need International Gateway and you're at a non-Skyliner resort, take the bus to EPCOT's main entrance and walk through the park.

From Other Parks (Park Hopping)

From Magic Kingdom

Option 1 — Monorail (the only Disney transit option): Take the Express monorail from MK to TTC, then transfer to the EPCOT monorail. Total: 25-40 minutes. There is no direct bus on this route — Disney does not run buses between MK and EPCOT.

Option 2 — Rideshare via Contemporary Resort: Walk from MK to Contemporary (5-8 minutes), then call Uber, Lyft, or Minnie Van directly to EPCOT. Total: 15-25 minutes — the fastest return option, since Contemporary has road access.

Option 3 — Rideshare via TTC: Take the ferry or Express monorail from MK to TTC, then rideshare to EPCOT. Total: 20-30 minutes.

For the full breakdown including the World Showcase / International Gateway penalty when arriving at EPCOT's front gate, see EPCOT to Magic Kingdom.

From Hollywood Studios

Option 1 — Skyliner: Take the Skyliner to EPCOT's International Gateway. Total: 15-20 minutes.

Option 2 — Friendship Boat: Boats run from Hollywood Studios to International Gateway via BoardWalk. Total: 20-30 minutes.

Option 3 — Walk: Walk from Hollywood Studios to International Gateway via BoardWalk area. Total: 20-30 minutes.

Option 4 — Bus: Direct bus to EPCOT's main entrance. Total: 20-30 minutes.

If you want World Showcase, Skyliner is fastest. If you want the main entrance, take the bus.

From Animal Kingdom

Bus only. Direct service to EPCOT's main entrance.

Total time: 25-40 minutes

Arrival Strategy

For Rope Drop

EPCOT's main entrance and World Showcase now open at the same time (typically 9 AM). Some festival booths and restaurants may open later (~11 AM), but rides like Frozen Ever After and Remy's Ratatouille Adventure are available at park opening.

If you're rope-dropping Guardians of the Galaxy:

  • Use the main entrance (bus or monorail)
  • Arrive 45-60 minutes before park opening
  • Position yourself for the virtual queue or standby line

If you're rope-dropping Frozen Ever After or Remy's:

  • International Gateway access (Skyliner, walk) works great — you'll be right at these attractions at park opening
  • These rides open with the rest of the park

For a deeper breakdown of how to choose between EPCOT's two entrances based on your first ride, see EPCOT Rope Drop: Two Entrances, Two Strategies.

Festival Considerations

EPCOT runs festivals year-round (Flower & Garden, Food & Wine, etc.). Festivals happen primarily in World Showcase. If festivals are your focus, International Gateway access is ideal.

Departure Strategy

Main Entrance Departure

Most guests depart from the main entrance after fireworks. Buses and the monorail both get crowded.

Strategies:

  • Leave before fireworks end
  • Stay 20-30 minutes after to let crowds clear
  • Walk to Beach Club/BoardWalk area and catch a bus from there (if your resort is served)

International Gateway Departure

If you're at a Skyliner resort or EPCOT-area resort, exiting via International Gateway is often faster than fighting the main entrance crowds.

Skyliner resorts: Walk to International Gateway, take Skyliner home. Lines exist but often move steadily.

EPCOT-area resorts: Walk home. This is the biggest advantage of staying in this area — no waiting for anything.

The Bottom Line

EPCOT's two entrances make transportation decisions more consequential than at other parks. The Skyliner is great — unless you need the main entrance. The bus is reliable — unless you're heading to World Showcase.

Know where you're going first, then choose your transportation. The extra 30 seconds of planning saves the 15-minute walk across the park.

EPCOT has more transportation options than any other park, which means more decisions. For help sorting through them — whether you're planning which entrance to target for a dining reservation or deciding in the moment — see how the app handles EPCOT routing.
